Sustainability & food policy- opportunities for the future of sustainable agriculture

October 22, 2008

Our thinking at Farmstead Wines is informed by the notion that wine is an agricultural good. All too often it is only about what is in the glass, with no respect for provenance and process. With Farmstead Wines, you get both a delicious wine and a sustainable process. Our beliefs and knowledge, being rooted in agriculture, extend to food policy and an overall commitment to farming.

Two things have caught my attention recently- this article in the NYT from Michael Pollan addressed to the "Next Farmer in Chief"

And this excerpt from a speech given by farmer and poet, Michael Ableman as part of Vancouver's "Stepping Stones to Sustainability" series. In the video below, he outlines industrial agriculture and the food crisis, but the real strength are his ideas for the way forward. What do you think of his proposals? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Are you listening Stephen Harper and Barack Obama?
